Describes the design, fabrication and erection of the first all-stainless steel, air-supported single membrane roof at Dalhousie University, Halifax, N.S., Canada. The theory of a metallic membrane is explained, and the solution of the problem of double curvature (what happens to a single membrane when it loses its air support) is described. Also describes and illustrates unique methods used to fabricate and transport large pie-shaped segments of the roof to the job site.
